Different materials. Different care.

Check your order details or care label before choosing a cleaner. A method suitable for one carpet, floor or fabric may be unsuitable for another.

Carpet

Wool & wool blends

Vacuum regularly with the attachment recommended for the pile. Blot liquid spills promptly with a clean white cloth, without rubbing or soaking. Use the manufacturer’s wool-care instructions for stain treatment.

Synthetic fibres

Check the fibre and range before treating a mark. “Easy clean” does not mean every cleaner is suitable. Loop pile and deep cut pile can also need different vacuum settings or attachments.

Natural plant fibres

Sisal, jute & seagrass

Plant fibres need particular care: water can leave marks. Use suction-only vacuuming where the maker recommends it, and follow its dry-cleaning method. Do not assume a carpet shampoo or steam cleaner is suitable.

Hard flooring

LVT & vinyl

Remove grit regularly and deal with spills promptly. Use a cleaner approved for the specific floor; Karndean recommends a suitable pH-neutral cleaner. Check guidance for furniture pads and mat backings, too.

Window coverings

Blinds & shutters

Start with the maker’s instructions for the fabric, slat or shutter material. Gentle dry dusting may be appropriate, but wet cleaning is not universal. Keep moisture away from mechanisms and ask before removing components.

Soft furnishings

Curtains & linings

Check the care label for both fabric and lining before washing, steaming or dry cleaning. Give a specialist cleaner the full specification, including any blackout lining, rather than choosing a method by appearance.

you reach for a cleaner.

If the material is uncertain, check first. Keep the product name and details of what was spilled to hand when asking for advice.

Follow the exact guide

Use the cleaning method and dilution specified for your product. There is no universal bleach, steam or wet-cleaning treatment for all floor coverings.

Know when to ask

For an unknown fibre, delicate finish or persistent mark, seek product-specific advice before trying another treatment. Tell the adviser what you have already used.

A few useful care answers.

Can I use bleach on my carpet?

Only where the manufacturer’s instructions expressly permit it for your exact carpet and specify how. A care claim for one synthetic carpet does not apply to wool, blends, natural fibres or a runner’s edging. If you are unsure, ask before using it.

Can I use a steam cleaner?

Check the exact product instructions before using steam. Heat and moisture can be unsuitable for some floors, fibres, coatings and window coverings. Natural plant-fibre flooring in particular needs specialist dry-care guidance.

What information should I send with a care question?

Include the brand and range if known, your order reference, the affected area, what happened and any treatment already tried. A clear photograph can help the team understand the issue.
