Comparing supplied-and-fitted quotes

A material price is only one part of a fitted project. When comparing quotes, first make sure they describe the same rooms or windows, product and agreed work. A clear specification helps you understand what each total covers.

Compare the same specification

Check the product or range, colour and finish. For flooring, the layout and fitting method matter too. For window furnishings, check the fabric or material, lining where relevant, fittings and controls. Similar-looking choices can have different specifications.

Make the measured scope clear

Confirm which rooms, stairs or windows the quote covers. Include adjoining landings, thresholds or other transitions where they form part of the project. Changes to the scope or pattern layout can change the materials and fitting work needed.

Understand preparation and additional work

The existing floor, stairs or fitting surfaces may need assessment before the final work is agreed. Ask who handles old materials, disposal and furniture, and whether preparation or other work is included. Avoid assuming an item is included because it appeared in a different quote.

Use your budget to compare worthwhile choices

Tell us what you are comfortable spending, or say you are unsure. Discuss where your priorities lie: feel, appearance, light control or ease of care. Ask the team to explain suitable alternatives and what changes between them, rather than choosing on the total alone.

Before you agree the order

  • Ask whether the price is an initial estimate or a measured quote, and what remains to be confirmed.
  • Keep the written product and fitting specification with the quote.
  • Confirm the rooms or windows, preparation, materials and installation included.
  • Clarify any additional work and who will arrange it.
  • Ask about the payment terms, proposed fitting arrangements and the care guidance for the chosen product.

Ask the team to clarify anything you cannot match between the quotes. One room or window is welcome. Your enquiry starts a conversation; products, inclusions and fitting arrangements are agreed for your particular project.
